IntroductionAbout Ranchi Industrial Area Development AuthorityThe RANCHI INDUSTRIAL AREA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (RIADA), an autonomous body, set up by the Government of Bihar under the Industrial Area Development Authority Act, 1974 has been playing, for the last thirty years, a progressively increasing role in the industrial development of seven Tribal Districts of Jharkhand. Located in the Heartland of Indian 'RHUR', it has over the years greatly accelerated the pace of its activities and has achieved as a result a premier position in the field of industrialisation. Role of RIADAEntrusted fundamentally with the task of establishing industrial areas, RIADA has also taken the responsibility of providing a continued assistance to the units which come up in these industrial areas. RIADA provides a total package of assistance at a single point to the entrepreneurs, be it selection of the project, location, providing developed land/sheds, arranging term loans and bank finance, power and water supply, technical know how, market tie-up and disbursement of incentives of the State Government. ProspectsThe State of Jharkhand has the largest concentration of mineral resources and forest in the sub-continent and is ideal for setting up large and medium industries based on minerals, forests, and metals. Existence of large engineering and mining industries and premier consultancy organisations like C.C.L., H.E.C., USHA MARTIN, MECON, AND CMPDIL provide large scale scope for ancillaries. Abundant manpower and excellent industrial relations, premier technical, management and educational institutions, good transport and communication facilities and improving power position in Industrial Areas makes the region attractive for entrepreneurs. Excellent prospects for establishment of chemical and Chlorine based industries at Belchampa Industrial Area in Garhwa District have opened up. Chlorine is available from near by Bihar Caustic and chemicals Ltd. and Aditya Birla Group company. About 40 Kms from Ranchi, Patratu is another very potential area particularly for Steel Ferro Alloys, Cement and Fly-ash Brick Industries. Easy availability of power from Patratu Thermal Power Station through J.S.E.B. and Damodar Valley Corporation(DVC) exists there. To provide world class infrastructure, RIADA has started developoing its industrial areas with the help of latest technology. The construction of PCC Roads, Renovation and widening of existing roads are under progress by setting up Concrete Batching Plant for the first time in Ranchi. RIADA is planning to build an ultramodern High-Tech Administrative Building Complex at Namkum Industrial Area. Building will be G+5 of which RIADA office will be G+Ist Floor, balance space can be allotted to finance, Banking & Development Organisation on 90 years lease. A Mega Industrial Growth Centre on 750 Acres land is being set up at Barhi, Hazaribagh, at 35 Kms north to Hazaribagh for providing modern infrastructural facilities of rapid industrialisation. The Growth Centre envisages an investment of Rs. 30 crores and shall provide quality infrastructural inputs like land, water, power, communication etc. An Urban Haat is being set up in Ranchi, Jharkhand near Kanke Dam on 10.94 Acres of land with the assistance of Central and State Government to provide assistance and market facilities with built in shed and necessary infrastructural facilities for promoting the local artisans, skilled craftsman as well as handicrafts of the Jharkhand region. A Software Technology Park is being set up jointly by Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand & Software Technology Parks of India, in Namkum Industrial Area, under RIADA. Four acres of land has already been allotted and handed over to STPI. Implementation of the scheme is under progress and STPI Ranchi Centre is made operational since 26 January, 2004 with necessary infrastructure. An Indo-Danish Mini Tool Room and Training Centre is being set up by the Department of Industries, Govt. of Jharkhand in Tatisilwai Industrial area Phase-I under RIADA. The Tool Room will have state of art infrastructure in the field of Hi-tech & Sophisticated Tools & Dies Making facilities. A Food Park is being setup with the help of Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India and Department of Industries, Govt. of Jharkhand at Gola, Hazaribagh on 72 acres of land to promote agro based & food processing industries with all necessary infrastructure facilities. Present status of Industrial Growth under RIADARIADA today has allotted land/sheds/MIPs to 682 units out of which 540 have commenced production. Rest are at various stages of implementation etc. The units are mostly in the field of General Engineering, Steel Casting & Foundry, Electrical and Electronics, Chemicals, Refractory and Minerals, Rubber, Leather, Plastic, Garments, Handicrafts and Food Processing. RIADA has also been able to develop 143 ancillary units to H.E.C., C.C.L. and other large and medium units in the area.
